War Stories

The CODE wardec initiative continues to grow. It seems like we have friends everywhere who have been waiting for something like this to come along and are eager to enlist. Some of them are alts who just want to spend a little happy funtime purging highsec when they aren't occupied by other things, but I don't mind. We're all about spreading the love here in the New Order of Highsec, even alts are welcome. Here are a few more stories from the front.

Mission runners need mining permits too
While mission running may not be specifically mentioned in the Code (more learned scholars than I may know of a passage that I have overlooked), it is unquestionably a filthy bot-aspirant activity. Mission runners obviously need to have a mining permit and be at the keyboard at all times, or they too will be subject to enforcement. The practice of excessively running missions is particularly repugnant - there are actually individuals who will run the same missions over and over, all day every day.

Anyhow, when one of our intelligence operatives reported a war target running missions in a Machariel with the encouraging name "Maserati", we knew that we had to take action. Several of us dropped what we were doing and made our way to the system.

We had the criminal probed down in his mission pocket, and then I, as the fastest tackler in the group with my Slasher, warped in to attempt to catch him. Unfortunately, he was several rooms deep in his mission. As I made my way painfully from acceleration gate to acceleration gate, he noticed me in local and was able to escape and dock up.

Undeterred, we blapped a couple of his mobile tractor units and then left the system, spreading out to cover the other sides of all the exit gates. Sure enough, the target saw that we were no longer in local and figured he was in the clear, so he undocked his Maserati and headed back to his home system of Gekutami.

I was waiting for him on gate and quickly landed point. He foolishly aggressed me with his drones, and I spent a minute shooting them down while orbiting him, until my comrades could arrive and put him out of his misery. The loot fairy was ... unkind. But we still managed at least to recoup our fees for about 4 more weeks of war.

Маленькая корпорация для новичков и не только!
So we wardecced some Russians. The dec was still fresh and we hadn't acted on it yet, so I figured I'd take a look at their home system. Sure enough, there was a Skiff mining in an asteroid belt, and 6 other guys docked up.

I was a little unsure of taking out the skiff solo with a Slasher, and it was too early on a weekday for any of my corpmates to be on. Sure, my sig radius is tiny and I'm fast, but he could potentially have lots of light drones and who knows what his corpmates might bring to the fight if they undock. So in spite of not having the skills to fit T2 light blasters yet, I decided to try my luck with an Incursus. Dual reps, cap boosters, meta ion blasters.

I arrived in system and warped to the belt. where I landed scrams on the Skiff. There was a war target Venture there which I ignored, and he quickly fled the scene. I pounded on the Skiff for five minutes or so, keeping a close eye on short range dscan. He launched a flight of Valkyrie Is, which I killed. I convoed the pilot and offered to let him go for a 100 mil ransom, but he wasn't interested.

A WT Corax landed on grid at 80 km range. I kept an eye on him, but for the moment he held off. A Rifter then landed at 0. I kept point on the Skiff and switched dps to the Rifter. He dented my armor a bit and I repaired it, but soon he was in structure and warped off to save himself. The Corax then approached to close range. I did the same to him, and soon he too was fleeing the belt. Then I turned my attention back to the Skiff.

About the time that he was in low armor, an Oracle warped in. I debated for a moment, then decided to let the Skiff go and get a tight orbit on the tier 3 battlecruiser. In hindsight I think that I could have finished off the Skiff, since the Oracle was at such close range he was unlikely to land a hit anyway. Sadly, the Skiff warped off, but I soon had the Oracle in armor. The Rifter and Corax came back and had another go at me, this time together. The Corax again warped away to save his skin, but the Rifter pilot bravely decided to go down fighting.

As the Oracle was entering structure, Skiff-guy came back with a Navy Scorpion, landing at 15 km range. I weighed my options again, and decided to overheat my guns and take down the battlecruiser.

When he popped I then set a close orbit and scrammed the Scorp. I didn't have any serious thoughts about killing him at the time, but I figured that I had already made a fair trade with an Incursus for a Rifter and Oracle, so I might as well stick around and see what could happen. The Scorpion did not launch any drones and his missiles proved ineffective against me, although I quite enjoyed the satisfying thump when they went off. Surprisingly soon he was in low shields and I began to believe a little bit.

That was when their entire corp arrived. In addition to the Navy Scorpion, there was a Navy Vexor, the Corax, a Thrasher, and some random guy in a shuttle who apparently didn't have a PvP ship but wanted to watch the fight.

I knew then that I wasn't getting the Scorpion, so I switched targets to the Navy Vexor. I tore through his shields and dug deep into his armor, but my two reppers and cap booster were cycling nonstop to deal with the incoming damage. After a few minutes I ran out of cap booster charges and was forced to disengage in 80% structure. I gave them a 'gf' in local and ran off to resupply.

That's all for today! The Code always wins!

AAR: Raid on Biki

Those of you who keep track of me know that a couple weeks ago I launched a new project- building an official New Order wardec corporation within CODE. alliance. Since it's creation two years ago, CODE. has focused almost exclusively on suicide ganking. It has done so with great success, ultimately becoming the most successful ganking organization in the history of eve. This did not happen overnight. It took a long term effort from a lot of determined, creative individuals.

But suicide ganking is not the only tool that we have at our disposal to create emergent content in highsec. We still have corp infiltration, at least for the next month or two, and we also have my personal favorite- wardecs. Independent agents and small corps have been using war declarations to enforce the Code since before there was a Code, but until now there has never been an official New Order wardec corporation.

So I started one. We've been gaining traction steadily and have recruited a few legendary highsec PvPers, and now we have started killing things. We've seen a lot of action over the last few days, and more is coming. I've been so busy hunting targets that I haven't had the time to write about it yet, so I figured that today at work I would pen a small report about the events of last night. It's a story of pew - not legendary pew, no kills that would be featured on TMC, nothing world changing - just some typical shenanigans that I got up to when I took an hour to log in and do a little casual bear hunting. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

SEVEN OF NINE INC.
I found these guys the other day when I saw the need for a few additional targets to keep the kills coming and make sure that my members had enough fun things to do. I don't even remember exactly how I chose them. Sometimes I get tips, sometimes I use third party fan sites to research possible targets, sometimes I cruise the belts looking to see who is out there mining without permits. Sometimes I wardec people who mouth off in the forums. In any case, I found these guys a few days ago and decided they made good targets, so I wardecced them.

We have a dozen or so wars going currently, and almost all of them have a positive war record. None of our wars has a negative record, but a few have 0 kills. This was one of those. So when I logged on for a quick session and saw that their CEO, CAPTAIN CRIMSON HAWK, was online, I passed his name on to our intel people to get a locator run, which turned him up in a backwater of Domain called Bika.

I hopped in my Practically Invincible Slasher (of justice!) and hopped over there to check things out.

Surprise attack
As I approached the system, the intel folks reported several corp members moving around in space within a few jumps of Bika. An Apocalypse was sighted in an asteroid belt, apparently mining (!), but unfortunately retreated to the corp POS and dropped his ship off before I could arrive.

When I jumped into the system, only two corp members were present- one docked and the other mining Jaspet in an ore anomaly with his Retriever. I warped to the Retty, orbited him at 500 and destroyed him with Republic Fleet EMP S. He never launched his drones or attempted to either defend himself or escape.

Knowing that he had corpmates nearby, I kept a close eye on local and dscan. Sure enough, less than a minute after the battle local spiked from two reds to seven. About half of them went directly to the station and docked, while the other half went directly to their POS and called me out in local from the safety of their POS shields.

The rebel forces mobilize
During all this, I was chatting with my corpmates and two of them were on the way to assist me, but they were still quite far out, so I decided to see what I could do solo in my Slasher. I warped to the station, targeted the Tristan and set a close orbit, but did not engage. He attacked and I noted with approval that he couldn't scratch my formidable speed/sig radius tank.

A Coercer landed on grid and I orbited it at 7500, taking little to no incoming damage. A Brutix, a Harby and a Rifter joined the attack, and my shields were soon stripped away. My armor slowly sagged under the pressure of all those glancing blows. Still I flew circles around them. After 5-10 minutes of this, I was close to structure, so I docked up.

The next round, I decided to try a different approach. I undocked and flew directly out from the station, activating my afterburner. Only the Rifter was able to keep up, so I drew him 40 km or so from his comrades and blew him up, then slew his pod. I then warped off to the sun, thinking to shake off my aggro timer and return to station. When I landed, I found an AFK wartarget in a Heron on grid. I killed him and his pod too, then went back.

CODE reinforcements arrive
I continued to tease my wartargets on the station while my two colleagues made their way to Bika. Signs of frustration on the part of the rebels began to show. Several of them made a show of marching off in a huff with their Procurers to mine (since Code could apparently only field one noob in a Slasher and they weren't scared).

Just when my backup, Agents Lexa Hellfury and the musteg landed on the in-gate, the enemy forces on the station undock had dwindled back to just the one guy in his Tristan. I advised them to standby and made a quick tour of the system.

I quickly discovered the rebel mining operation in an asteroid belt - two Procurers, an Apocalypse, a Brutix, and assorted frigates and destroyers. They were defiantly mining without permits right under the nose of an Agent, and had to be destroyed.

Looking at the buzzing swarm of light drones surrounding their fleet I committed my soul to James 315 and attacked. Urging my comrades to jump and warp to me, I tackled the most valuable ship in range and tried my best to dodge and weave and survive as long as I could.

I went down in flames as musteg and Lexa arrived in a Caracal and a Keres. They quickly dominated the battlefield, and I was able to re ship to a Reaper, fit a warp scrambler to it, and return to help them destroy the rebel battleship. Once again, the New Order defeated the enemies of highsec and saved the day.

The aftermath
As we proceeded to loot the wrecks, the rebel CEO, CAPTAIN CRIMSON HAWK, showed an unexpected streak of "Gallantry" and congratulated us in local.

He even generously offered to reimburse all losses on both sides. Unsure if he was serious, I posted my Slasher loss and soon found my wallet blinking with a 6 million isk donation. I, too, am generous to a fault, and so I offered to reduce the price of his first mining permit by 6 million isk as an award for his good sportsmanship. Unfortunately for him, he declined.
